Des Moines Art Festival 2017

This weekend’s weather could not have been any better for the Des Moines Art Festival. The sunny skies and 75 temperatures.

If you get the chance to come to our city during the 3rd weekend in June, please take in the sights and sounds of this fun festival.  Our city, a population of just under 600,000 residents, likes to show off our love of the arts.  The festival is located on the north and south streets that line the Pappajohn Sculpture Park.  Even if you don’t have the dollars or room for the creations, it’s worth your time just to walk around and enjoy the talented artists’ work, music, and food.

The Entertainment!

The day is packed full of bands and other interesting acts to watch.   Sorry, I didn’t get the name of this act.  I was passing by and the show had already started.  But I loved watching.

THE ART

There is an art style for everyone’s taste.  If you like 3D multimedia metal artwork or watercolor paintings, this place is for you.  My personal favorite is a man who creates 3-dimensional color glass wall art.  The glass is woven to look like a colorful hanging rug. It’s not until you get up close that you realize the whole piece is glass strips. The time he must spend on the melting the glass and putting the spectacular hues together, let alone the time it takes to weave the hot glass is such a talent.  The streets are full of others that have such passion for the work they do.  And to top it off, the whole weekend is free admission to the public.

Here is a link to help you find additional art and craft shows in the state this summer.  The list provides one of the next events to catch.
