More children die from water-related illness than from malaria and HIV/AIDS combined.
The TYH Foundation partners with Save the Rain, an organization that teaches water-starved communities in east Africa to use rain as a sustainable water supply.
TYH and Save the Rain have partnered for five years. TYH was assigned the village of Miembani, Tanzania in 2011. Our first Walk for Water raised $15,000. A 150,000 liter rain harvesting system was completed and 350 merenga trees were planted.
The TYH 2013 Walk for Water was directed to the village of Mareu, Tanzania. Children in the mountainous village walked 8 to 10 hours for water. TYH contributed $2,500 and received a $5,000 match to help complete a 150,000 liter rainwater harvesting system for Mareu’s primary school and 25 residential rainwater harvesting systems. Our donation also went towards the planting of 500 merenga trees.
The 2014 TYH Walk for Water was directed to the village of Mboreny, Tanzania. The school has 269 kids and their walk for water was 12 kilometers round trip and takes 8 to 10 hours. TYH efforts have raised $2,000 and received a $10,000 match from Rotary International.
They say you can’t change the world single-handed and they’re right. If there’s anything Tim taught us and instilled in our minds, it’s that one person with enough drive and purpose can influence enough people to where a difference is made.
